Abstract

IntroductionThe concept of interaction in higher education was extracted based on the perspective of physical education professors at the Islamic Azad University of East Azerbaijan Province.
MethodsThe study was carried out through a grounded theory method based on an inductive approach. The data collection source involved interviews with physical education professors at the Islamic Azad University of East Azerbaijan province. The study was carried out through a grounded theory methodology. The population under study comprised all physical education professors at the Islamic Azad University of East Azerbaijan in the year 2022 (n=87). Given that sample size in grounded theory research is contingent upon theoretical saturation, after coding and identifying core themes, saturation was achieved in the 28th interview.
Results: Following theoretical foundations and data analysis, the process involved coding, identifying commonalities in ideas, and ultimately inferencing main and subsidiary themes and summarizing. The key findings are as follows: 1) The core theme for the concept of interaction was "agency". 2) The distinctive and important aspect of interaction was "mutual understanding and accepting others." 3) For instructor-learner actions, the horizontal relationship and, ultimately, the professional life experience served as the central theme, reflecting the cognitive foundations of professors' perspectives on interaction.
Conclusion: In the interaction between professor and student, they collaborate together. And after "self-understanding" occurs, "other understanding" begins, which also leads to "mutual understanding".
