Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between self-confidence and group cohesion among athletes of the national kabaddi team.
Methodology: This is a descriptive research that was conducted in the field. The statistical population is all the members of the beach kabaddi national team who were invited to the national team camp in 2015 and all these athletes were used as research samples. The research measurement tools of the group cohesion questionnaire and the group self-confidence questionnaire have a reliability and validity coefficient of .93 and .92, respectively.
Result: There is a positive and high correlation between self-confidence and group cohesion of athletes. The most important sub-index in group cohesion is the feeling of cohesion as an individual task, and it is the least important sub-indicator in individual social cohesion. The most important sub-index in self-confidence is the sub-index of alternative experiences, and the least important sub-index in self-confidence is ability demonstration.
Conclusion: Self-confidence has a high impact on the group cohesion of the kabaddi athletes. Since a high level of group cohesion leads to the team's success and due to the high sub-index of alternative experiences, preparatory competitions are significant in increasing self-confidence and, as a result, achieving group cohesion.
