Introduction: The aim of the present study was an investigation of different imagery models in sports science that pay attention to the identification and presentation of effective elements in motor imagery and the strengths and weaknesses of any of these models.
Method: The type of this research was qualitative and library. Articles related to mental imagery models in sports were collected by exploring databases using keywords such as motor imagery, mental practice, sports imagery, and mental imagery models.
Results: Ten models in about to mental imagery in sport were identified including Paivio (1985), Hall et al (1989), Martin et al (1999), Munroe et al (2000), Jackson et al (2001), Holmes and Collins (2001), Watt and et al (2004) Driediger et al (2006), McIntyre & Moran (2007) and Guillot and Collet (2008).
Conclusion: By describing each of the models, the types of imagery, their consequences and results, the place of their use and the modulating factors of imagery in each model were identified. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of each model were presented and necessary suggestions for future research were made.
