The aim of this study was to examine the construct validity and reliability of the Persian version of the short form of the Physical Activity Parenting practices (PAPP) scale for children aged 5-12 years (Massi et al., 2020) in a quantitative cross-sectional study among a sample of Iranian children. A total of 500 parents of children aged 5 to 12 years participated as a convenience sample in this study. The English version of the scale was translated into Persian using the translation-back translation method. Construct validity, and internal consistency, were assessed using confirmatory factor analysis, and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, respectively. The factor structure of the nine-factor model of the scale (nondirective support, autonomy-support, coercive control, restrict inside PA, Reword, Supportive expectations, facilitations, allow unsupervised PA, and guided choice) showed an acceptable fit with the observed data after the deletion of one item. Cronbach’s alpha results indicated that the reliability of the subscales ranged from high to excellent (from 74 to 93). Overall, the findings provide evidence of the construct validity and reliability of the nine-factor model of the short form of the PAPP scale. Therefore, the Persian version of this scale can be utilized to examine various aspects of physical activity parenting practices for children in this age group.
