Abstract
The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between physical literacy with physical self-concept and motivation to participate in physical activity in adolescent girls. The method of this study is descriptive, correlational and applied in terms of purpose. From among 360 second-grade high school adolescent girls from schools in District 4 of Tehran, aged 16 to 18 years, 107 were selected through convenience and purposive sampling for the research. Physical literacy was measured with a 25-question Adolescent Physical Literacy Questionnaire (APLQ) and physical self-concept with a 36-question questionnaire by Marsh et al. (2010) entitled Physical Self-Description. Motivation to participate in physical activity was measured with a 30-question questionnaire Motivation to Participate in Sports Activity by Gill et al. To examine the relationship between variables, Pearson correlation coefficient was used in SPSS-27 software. The findings showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy and its subscales with physical self-concept (P = 0.001). There was a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy and motivation to participate in physical activities and its subscales (P = 0.001). The results of the study showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy, physical self-concept and motivation to participate in physical activity. Also, the results of the regression analysis showed that the physical literacy regression model explains 72% of the change in physical self-concept and 43% of the change in motivation to participate in physical activity which can justify the necessity of developing physical literacy to enhance body self-concept and increase the motivation of adolescent girls to participate in physical activities.
